How do I cancel my domain name?

In the circumstance you wish to cancel your domain name and you are sure that you no longer need it, you can schedule it for cancellation within your Nominet Online Services account.  Once deleted, the domain name can be re-registered on a first come, first served basis by anyone. 

Is your domain name newly registered?

If your domain name has only recently been registered and you wish to cancel this, please contact your registrar who registered the domain name. You can discuss the options available, and they will be able to advise if they are able to cancel the domain name for you. 

To find out who your registrar is, and view the registration status of your domain name visit our domain lookup tool. 

Log into Nominet Online Services

To log into your Nominet Online Services account, you will need to use the current admin contact email address and password. Visit our forgotten password or first time logging in link to reset this if needed.
For quick reference, you can follow the steps below to cancel your domain name.
Once logged in, select the domain name by clicking on the white box to the left of it, and then click ‘Cancel Domain’.

If you have requested the cancellation in error click 'Back' to return to the previous screen, if you wish to proceed with the cancellation request click ' Proceed to Declaration'.

Check you have entered the correct domain name and confirm that you would like to proceed with the cancellation by clicking on the white box to the left of the declaration, then click 'Cancel my domain'.

You have successfully submitted your cancellation request, the domain name will now enter a 5-day “pending delete” period where it will be placed in a queue to be deleted. Once deleted, the domain name can be re-registered on a first come, first served basis by anyone.

Your domain name has been placed in a queue to be deleted and is no longer possible for you to retrieve it. You will need to make sure you cancel any hosting services you have with your registrar, they are also the ones you should discuss any billing queries with.
