What do I do if my registrar is no longer available?

If your registrar (the company who looks after your domain name for you) is no longer trading or unable to register or renew .UK domain names with Nominet, you’ll need to find and choose a new registrar for your .UK domain(s).

This can be completed through the following steps:

1. Select a new registrar

Choose a new registrar who can manage your domain name(s) and will be able to complete renewals and provide you with any other services you may need (such as web hosting). If you’re looking for advice on choosing a registrar, our guide on ‘how to choose a registrar’ can help.

2. Move your domain name(s)

Once you’ve chosen a new registrar, you can move your domain name(s) to them using your Nominet Online Services account. If you need help accessing your account, our how-to guide on ‘how do I access my Nominet Online Services account’ can help.

3. Arrange any renewals

If any of your domains are due for renewal, arrange for your new registrar to renew them for you.

If no action is taken, your domain name(s) will remain registered, but you won’t have a registrar to help manage them for you. If any domains are due to expire, they can be renewed directly with Nominet via your Nominet Online Services account. The renewal fee directly with Nominet is £80+VAT and is for the renewal of a .UK domain only, excluding any other services such as email, website and hosting.
